autism, how to prevent it

autism, how to prevent it. This is a disorder that tends to develop in early childhood. Its numerous symptoms include an inability to communicate and concentrate, disturbed sleep patterns, hyperactivity, abnormal social relationships, rituals and compulsive behaviour. Some doctors say that autism is genetic and this is undoubtedly a factor in some cases, but reports are now accumulating that link the huge increase in autism to toxic overload, either from vaccines (especially MMR - measles, mumps and rubella), pesticides or chemicals in food.

Many autistic children have also been given large doses of antibiotics that, in the long term, can trigger gut problems, which in turn trigger sensitivities to many foods, especially gluten and dairy produce from cows. I have even heard of several cases where autistic children have been referred to psychiatrists and, when given mind-altering drugs, these children's symptoms worsened considerably.

Foods to Avoid

- Removing all gluten found in most mass-produced breads, biscuits and cereals from the child's diet has been shown to be very helpful in many cases. Remember that rye, barley and oats also contain gluten. Some children suffered withdrawal-type symptoms and became worse before their parents noticed improvements.
- Dairy produce from cows should also be avoided.
- Wheat, soya, fish, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and shellfish have been found to cause the most problems.
- Avoid all prepackaged junk-type foods and drinks that are packed with additives, salt, sugar and animal fats. Keep a food diary and note when symptoms become worse. To make sure that your child does not suffer nutrional deficiencies, work with a qualified nutrionist or a nutrional physician.

Friendly Foods.

- As far as possible, give your child only organic, whole foods that are free from pesticides and rich in magnesium, vitamin B6 and folic acid; especially green leafy vegetables, beans, fresh fruit and liver.
- Gluten-free cereals, carrot, broccoli, baked beans, parsley, spinach, watercress and almonds are all high in calcium, which helps reduce the incidence of self-injury.
- Essential fats are vital for healthy brain functioning. Give your child oily fish, if this is not one of their problem foods - at least twice a week - and add cold organic sunflower and olive oil to cooked foods and use in salad dressings.

Useful Remedies.

- Take magnesium (15mg per kilogram of body weight) and vitamin B6 (10mg per kilogram of bodyweight). Many children with autism have also been found to be low in folic acid - part of the B group of vitamins, so try to include a B complex daily. As children do not tend to like tablets, try adding liquid B vitamins to their food.
- Some parents have found that adding an essential fatty acid on a regular basis has helped their children.
- Dissolve an addictive-free vitamin C tablet into water daily to boost immune function.
- As children can find pills hard to swallow, use liquid multiminerals and vitamins daily and make sure the supplement contains 5000iu of vitamin A. Or use a pill crusher and then sprinkle the powder over cooked foods.

Helpful Hints

Try to remove all chemicals from the child's environment such as perfumes, chemical cleaning products and toiletries.

Many parents have had some success in using homoeopathy to minimise damage caused by vaccines.

What doctors don't tell you have an excellent book covering this subject.

Because each case of autism is so unique, i strongly suggest that before embarking on this programme you consult a nutrional physician.
